Next Adobe Premiere update will bring VR editing tools

    PremierePro

In the next update to Premiere Pro CC, Adobe are adding a great new set of tools that will give video editors the ability to create and edit immersive VR & 360 video experiences. In light of the announcement, Adobe have released a video preview of the VR workflow that will arrive soon for Creative Cloud members.

With 360 video becoming all the rage right now, creative professionals need great workflows to convert that raw video capture in usable VR content and thankfully Adobe are coming to the VR party. In the video we see the user place a new ‘VR Video’ view on the playback window that allows interaction with the 360 video footage as if Premiere was a VR experience. Being able to pan around the content like the user will experience it will be critical and given we’re no longer editing one angle, but all angles, the job of a video editor just become much harder. Imagine you were trying to colour correct a scene, but the lighting changes based on the direction of the footage, you’ve now got a difficult blending challenge.

Right now it looks like interacting with the ‘VR video’ is only possible using the mouse and scrollbars, which is fine, it will work, but is relatively clunky when you know in the future, we’ll be editing in VR. Hopefully there’s touch support coming as that’s a nice middle ground between scrolling manually and having to wear a VR headset.

When the editing is done, exporting the content to somewhere like YouTube or Facebook that supports 360 / VR video is something Adobe customers will love and dramatically speeds up existing, clunky solutions.
