Official Kumo screen shot from Microsoft

Apparently Microsoft has decided that rebranding their Live Search property is the best way for them to increase market share in internet search. I actually like Live as a name and I believe Live as a brand is one of Microsoft’s best. Some of their most forward thinking products have come from the Live development.

The screen shots below show the new kumo search (left) and the current Live Search (right). Kumo ads different categories and filter options to refine the search results. This is a nice touch, but I don’t think it’s the fundamentally new search paradigm that’s needed to bring down the search giant – Google.
