Ring’s 2nd Gen Indoor Camera offers plenty of features and hardware cover for privacy

A number of years ago, I reviewed Ring’s first-generation indoor camera and while it was a great offering at the time, they’re now back with a 2nd generation that’s even better.

By now, most of us are comfortable securing our homes with external cameras, with the goal of at least catching the culprits, should the worst happen and often providing video evidence to authorities can help lead to a conviction.

Indoor security is the next level. Sometimes it’s used in an effort to capture criminals, should they breach the premises and make it indoors, but other times it’s more about providing peace of mind like monitoring a pet when you’re away from home.

The 2nd gen indoor camera from Ring is designed for easy installation and with a flexible swivel mount and can go almost anywhere – even up high on a wall or ceiling beam.

This is Ring’s first first-ever security camera to include a privacy cover that turns off audio and video recording when placed over the camera lens. This provides an added layer of privacy and security and allows you to decide when you want to monitor your home and when you don’t.

The camera offers 1080p video resolution, along with features like advanced Pre-Roll and Colour Night Vision which allow you to see more of what’s happening at home, even after dark.

There’s a Two-Way Talk option so you can either speak to those at home or scare off intruders.

For those new to smart security cameras, you can get real-time alerts to your mobile phone, whenever motion is detected. In some locations, you may wish to exclude a portion of the camera’s view to avoid false positives, and Ring allows you to customise this using Motion Zones.

Ring also offers an accessory called the Chime Pro which you can setup to work wirelessly with the Indoor camera, allowing you to get audible notifications anywhere in the home.

The Ring Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) features:

    • 1080p HD Video
    • Two-Way Talk
    • Live View
    • Real-time notifications
    • Customisable Motion and Privacy Zones
    • Colour Night Vision
    • Advanced Pre-Roll (with a Ring Protect subscription)
    • Plug-in power

If you’re keen, Ring is having an end-of-financial-year sale right now which includes free shipping on orders over A$50, and the Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) costs A$99.00 from either amazon.com.au and ring.com/au/en.

If you have multiple locations around the home you’d like to monitor, you can buy a 2, 3 or 4 pack of cameras, with the 4-pack priced at A$299.00, making it just A$74.75 per camera.
