The Tesla Referral program is back! Back in August 2021, we’d heard Tesla’s referral program was getting a revamp. Now in February 2023, it’s finally here (in Australia).
During Tesla’s last referral program, I referred as many as 124 customers, leading to more than 150,000 km of free Supercharging. Unfortunately, these credits are due to expire on May 23rd, 2023, so a new referral opportunity certainly gets my attention and those Tesla owners with a referral link.
Our goal is to help Tesla owners share their passion for Tesla’s products and our mission — to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. As an owner, every time you bring a new friend or family member into the Tesla community, you and your friend both earn credits — you earn Referral Credits and your friend earns Buyer Credits. You also earn Loyalty Credits when you purchase additional qualifying Tesla products, as a thank you for being a loyal Tesla owner.
All of your credits have equal value and accrue under one balance in your Loot Box. Credits can be redeemed for Tesla Referral awards in the Referral Shop of the Loot Box, after the Grant Date — the date when the Tesla vehicle is delivered.
While there is no limit to the number of credits you can earn, credits do expire 12 months from the Grant Date. Referring additional friends or purchasing additional qualifying products on your existing Tesla account extends the expiration date for all of the credits by 12 months from the most recent Grant Date, as long as the delivery date precedes the previous credit expiration date. Credit amounts are subject to change until the order is placed and are not redeemable for cash value. Credits cannot be transferred between accounts or assigned to other people. The Referral Program is subject to these Terms and Conditions.
If you or a friend placed an order through a referral link prior to February 23, 2023, your order falls under a previous Referral Program. Learn more about the previous phases of the Referral Program.

How does the new referral program work?
In previous referral programs, the setup was easy, when someone purchased a Tesla vehicle using a referral link, both the purchaser and purchase would receive 1,500km of free supercharging.
The new Tesla referral works on a credit system. The number of credits varies depending on the item value referred. If you have a Tesla and buy a new one, you’ll be eligible for a loyalty bonus (see right column).

What can you spend Tesla Referral Credits on?
If you manage to accumulate some referral credits, you have some new options to spend the credits on, outside Supercharging.
If you head to the Lootbox > Redeem section of the Tesla app, you’ll find that you can spend referral credits on a wide variety of items from Tesla. Interestingly the value of the credits doesn’t directly align with the price tag of items in the store:

- Supercharging (750km costs 1,500 credits and 1,500km costs 3,000 credits)
- Apparel – Mens T-shirt (500 credits) ~$55 value.
- Apparel – Kids Relaxed Y Logo Hat (275 credits)
- Apparel – Thermal Cuffed Beanie (650 credits)
- Lifestyle – S3XY Mug (600 Credits) ~$40 value
