Computer desks are often plain, boring and for the most part the same design. Gareth Battensby thinks that needs to change. His concept desk design, created for his final year University project, features a stylish appearance, with some really great features.
“The desk includes a built in USB hub for peripherals, scanner, widescreen monitor, webcam, wireless keyboard and mouse, and storage space for CDs and stationary.”
My favourite is the in-built USB hub, I’m sure many of you are also sick of getting access to the back of the mini tower to connect a USB device. While most are shipping with a couple of USB ports up from, I have about USB devices, so to have them easily accessible is a big win.
The glossy black finish is divinely sexy, and honestly it’s surprising more desks aren’t already using this finish, given it’s so prevalent in the devices and home electronic equipment we find ourselves surround by. A white version would no doubt appeal to the Apple fans out there.
The only downside I see to the design is a lack cable-management. The 3D renders (above) look great, but that cleanness will inevitably by reduced once your spaghetti cables are hanging from the back.
I really hope this desk actually makes it into production, if it doesn’t then it’s still great to see people come up with a new take on a very boring piece of furniture.
