I love twitter, been using it a long time, but this rate limit is incredibly restrictive.
I, like many use TweetDeck as the client. I typically max out the search columms (limited to 10), and watch topics that I want updates, next to instantly. The immediacy of information flow one of the critical success factors of twitter.
So as I understand, Tweetdeck recieves 1 API key, which means everyone who uses Tweetdeck draws from the overall total of 20,000 requests per hour.
That means 1 update per hour, per user ?? If so, that’s un-usable. Especially since I was already running into the standard rate limit when going from work, home for lunch opening Tweetdeck at home I would recieve – "Rate limit exceeded".
I also have an iPhone which I use the Tweetie app. Also rate limited. This is breaking Twitter !
So what’s the deal Twitter, have you burnt through all your VC funding already ? Put in new servers and fast, before your users get tired of being trickle fed.
