Wodonga adds an Evie charger as EV adoption continues to spread across regional Victoria

The regional town of Wodoonga, Victoria is about to have another electric vehicle charger location. Located on the border of Victoria and New South Wales, Wodonga plays a critical role as a location between Melbourne, and Sydney.

Charging in Wodonga has been led by Tesla’s 6-bay supercharger, followed by a 4-bay Chargefox charger (2×350, 2x 50kW) at Barnawartha North. Albury had a 50kW charger in the CBD, but the NRMA site was unfortunately vandalised and will not be repaired. The IGA Baranduda most recently added 2x 22kW GetElectric chargers and for a city the size of Albury Wodonga, with a population 100,000 people, combined with the traffic throughput via the Hume Hwy, this is woefully inaccurate EV charging infrastructure, particularly if you purchase a non-Tesla EV.

The situation is changing, albeit slowly, with the addition of another charging location in the CBD of Wodonga. Located in the carpark of Woolworths, this new charging location offers a single EV charger by Evie Networks which offers 2 charging connectors.

The charging location is fitted out with explicit branding and blue-painted carparks to let EV owners know they have charging options and to let ICE owners that these two spots are not for them.

The location is close to public toilets the Woolworths Supermarket and a number of retail food outlets nearby including coffee, bakeries, newsagents and more.

The site could have definitely done with multiple chargers to support the growing number of EVs in the area.

As it stands currently, the newest Evie Networks location is not yet on Plugshare, however, photos from the site show it is ready to roll in terms of hardware. I suspect the site is awaiting activation from the energy supplier, as we saw in Wangaratta this can take a number of months, so an actual launch date is unknown at this time.
