New NRMA Mittagong RSL fast chargers are eLumina D1 with built-in 193kWh battery

After a tip off from an EV industry contact I have confirmed with two other people that eLumina D1 model DC fast chargers with built-in 193kWh battery are to be installed at the NRMA charging stop located at Mittagong RSL.

Lisa Marsh (CEO of eLumina Global) told me that the D1 is currently in use in Parkwood Village on the Gold Coast and also in the Sunshine Coast. This will be the 3rd Australian charging hub with eLumina D1’s to be operational and the first in NSW.

Marsh was proud to say eLumina Global are 100% Australian owned and had acquired a factory in Yatala QLD in late 2023 for manufacturing.

From 2nd QTR 2024 their chargers will be 100% Australian owned and manufactured. The manufacturing facility is almost complete and should have a big opening soon.

In late 2023 I was the first member of the public to use the new NRMA Mittagong Freewire Boost Charger 150, with 160 kWh built in storage.

Three days ago I was the first Australian journalist to break the story that Freewire Technologies was in big financial trouble and will likely go broke so NRMA has been forced to rip out their Freewire chargers at Mittagong RSL.

eLumina Global say that the D1 eliminates the need for expensive grid upgrades that require long waiting times of sometimes a year or more, as all it needs is a 10kW – 40kW grid connection to fill up it’s built-in 193 kWh battery (the ripped out Freewire units had 160 kWh built in storage.)

These are the standard specifications of a eLumina Global D1 below.

In a week or two so we should find out what specification NRMA installs. Especially of interest is whether they will activate the credit card tap n go feature or leave it disabled for now.
