The 2018/19 5th-gen Formula E cars could look like this

Formula E is currently a few races into its 3rd season, but come 2018, the cars may get their biggest visual overhaul since the categories inception. Spark Racing Technologies will again supply the cars for Formula E for the 2018/2019 season. These renders show a wild step forward in terms of design, moving them away from a Formula 1 copy, into an ultra-aerodynamic vehicle from the future.

Known as the ‘SRT05e’ chassis, it is expected that battery technology, along with some efficiency gains, will help drive the cars up to twice the distance of current model cars. In a category that’s supposed to represent the future of motorsport, this may finally see the end of the awkward mid-race car-swap to make the race distance. The extra battery will actually weigh 10% more, so they’ll find weight savings elsewhere in the chassis.

Personally I think these cars look amazing and certainly something to get the fans and sponsors excited for the category. The all-electric racers are definitely heading in the right direction.
