Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, will electrify the ‘drive-in’ and host Australia’s first-ever electric vehicle drive-in cinema, delivering a much-loved Aussie pastime with a modern twist.

As highlighted by @Jays200 on Twitter, it seems the Tesla Owners Club of Western Australia (TOCWA) ran a Drive-in theatre for EV owners back in November 2021.
Drive-in cinemas were all the rage back in the 1950s (well before I was born), providing a great opportunity to enjoy a movie with a friend or loved one while having food and drinks delivered to your car.
Over the decades as the TV and Movie experience at home got better, fewer people were willing to travel to a drive-in movie theatre, instead opting for a more private at-home screening.
In partnership with Mov’in Car, the pop-up event will take place in Sydney from May 4 – 7 and showcase some of the latest Hollywood blockbusters on the rooftop of the Entertainment Quarter car park.
Moviegoers who drive pure electric vehicles from any brand will have exclusive access to the event, which marks Australia’s first-ever electric-vehicle drive-in cinema experience – complete with whisper-quiet battery generators powering the sessions.
For nostalgic guests, organisers have also included a Hollywood classic in the event line-up:
- Thursday 4th May – Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre
- Friday 5th May – Avatar 2: The Way of Water
- Saturday 6th May – The Super Mario Bros. Movie
- Sunday 7th May – Dirty Dancing
Commenting on the event, Jonathan Williams, Head of Marketing at Polestar Australia said, “Polestar is all about redefining norms and reimagining the world around us in a more sustainable way. Electrifying the drive-in was on the wish list, and thanks to Mov’in Car, it has become a reality.”
Like all great cinema experiences, a range of snacks and drinks will also be available to purchase, including pizza, and bottomless popcorn.
Gates will open from 6 pm with movies commencing from 7.30pm. Tickets will be complimentary for Polestar 2 owners.
