The smartwatch club seems to like it will soon have a few more members, with both Apple’s rumoured iWatch and now Samsung’s “Galaxy Gear” looking to join after a US trademark filing was discovered by the dutch site Galaxy Club for Samsung’s device. There was already a known filing back in June for “Samsung Gear”, but it didn’t reveal any information about what it could possibly be – this filing does. Its identification describes it as:

Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages; wearable electronic handheld devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle for the wireless receipt, storage and/or transmission of data and messages and for keeping track of or managing personal information; smart phones; tablet computers; portable computers

Of course, like any trademark filing, this could be something that may not ever surface out of Samsung’s prototype labs, but if it is something, it seems like the high-tech, smartwatch category is about to heat up big time.
