Facebook Messaging gets a refresh, now a full email client

In a recent interview with Mike Arrington at TechCrunch Disrupt, Mark Zuckerberg said the company had more product features to release soon. Today one of those products, messaging has arrived. The refresh of messages on Facebook is long overdue with the system remaining largely the same since launch.

This isn’t just a tweak here and there, it’s a ground up rethink of how people communicate. Facebook messages just became an web-based email client overnight. The To: field now says Name or Email, sure enough you can email right from Facebook.

You can now easily search through your previous conversations, imagine that, search. If anything, this gives a window into Facebook’s capability in search and demonstrates how a new global search on Facebook isn’t too far away.

A very welcome addition is the ability to send multiple files or photos in one message. This has been a long-time frustration for many users and was counter intuitive, glad to see this fixed.

If you want to try it out for yourself, just head to Facebook and check out your messages. As with all Facebook updates, this is being rolled across 1 Billion users, so may take a few days to reach your account.
