That good old ‘anonymous industry insider‘ has leaked information to CNET.com.au, supposedly confirming that Optus will carry the iPhone.
This isn’t exactly mind blowing news given that rumors have already speculated the phone would be unlocked and provided by not only Optus, but Telstra, Vodaphone and others.
The news here is really the date of the announcement, said to be middle to late next week. I would expect news regarding the Australian launch of the iPhone would be distributed by closely guarded by Apple and carriers would have to wait till Steve’s keynote at WWDC on June 9th.
Even with an announcement the iPhone is coming to Australia, doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing it before the end of June as some would suggest. Canada for instance won’t be seeing it until later this year, given Canada’s proximity to the US, I don’t understand why Australia would see the iPhone first.
