Regional town of Cobram gets new EV Fast Charger on the Everty network

As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow in Australia, the demand for charging options increases accordingly. While DC fast charging is being rolled out in major cities and along many of the most popular highways, the need for charging infrastructure, doesn’t stop there.

Every small country town also needs good public charging options to enable tourists to travel there, visit friends and family and encourage tourism dollars to be spent in the local economy, towns of all sizes need charging options for EVs.

The regional Victorian town of Cobram, has a population of just 5,389 people, but now has a great, central location for recharging your EV.

The charging location is already on Plugshare, and features 2x 50kW CCS2 DC fast charging connectors which suits 95% of the EVs on Australian roads. The location at Federation Park on Punt Road, Cobram is located close to Restrooms, Shopping and a Park, which is great for those travelling with kids.

Providing the charge is a Delta 100kW DC City Charger on the Everty Charging Network. This supports the simultaneous charging of two EVs at once and the location features clear green marketing to let the public know these are dedicated charging locations. There’s also good separation between the parks, allowing both vehicles to open doors and exit the vehicle without concern you’ll bump into the door next to you.

While many EV owners are used to charging at Chargefox, Evie Networks and even Ampol and NRMA sites, Everty has a growing network of charging locations, in almost every state of Australia, but this is the first in regional Victoria.

While some charging networks select a charging manufacturer, Everty offers charging options from Delta, ABB, Tritium, Schneider, Fimer and Keba.

The Moira Shire invites everyone to come and check out the new EV charging station.

As someone who grew up in Cobram and still has family there, I’ve travelled between Wodonga and Cobram many times over the past few years since getting my Model 3. Until now, if you did need a charge, you’d have to stay at the RACV Resort and BYO your Type 2 charging cable.

For those enjoying this part of the world, there are also multiple charging options just down the road at Yarrawonga.

    How much?

Charging at the site is currently priced at $0.30 per kwh, which is cheap compared to the highest in the market at around double that, although the price is relative to the speed on offer here.

    How do I charge?

If you’re new to EV charging, the process is simple. Start by downloading the app and registering for an account and configuring payment.

Find the charging location on the map or enter the Station ID (in this instance 1219) and tap to start charging.

This releases the charger and you can connect your car. From there, just watch the charge level from your phone and when you have enough charge, make sure you move it to make way for other EV owners.
