    V8 Supercars legend Craig Lowndes is racing an EV this weekend, a Tesla Model 3 Performance around Adelaide

    This weekend, Australian motorsport racing legend, Craig Lowndes will drive an electric vehicle around the streets of Adelaide. Lowndes is one of the most decorated drivers in Australia, with a legacy that started back in 1992 and has seen him win 110 races, feature on 266 podiums and land 42 pole positions.

    The majority of Lowndes’ career has been spent in a V8 Supercar, along with a spattering of experience at the Bathurst 12 hour in GT3 cars.

    This weekend, as part of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival, there is a Targa West Event that features a range of race cars, including a Tesla Model 3, of which Craig Lowndes will play co-pilot.

    The Toceva Racing team have kitted out a Tesla Model 3 Performance for a number of race events, adding the necessary race equipment including a roll cage, fire extinguisher and racing buckets.

    Today, the competitors are testing their vehicles, ahead of qualifying and racing throughout the weekend (helmets and race suits to come).

    If we take a look at the schedule of events at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival (March 25/26), we see the variety of motorsport on offer.

    Demonstrations at the event include:

    • Electric – Electric race and rally cars.
    • Paddon – Hayden Paddon in his Hyundai Kona EV rally car.
    • Repco – Repco Brabham BT19. 
    • Bottas V8 – Valtteri Bottas in a V8 Supercar. 

    If you’re anywhere near Adelaide this weekend, you should definitely head along, with tickets available for A$20 for children and A$60 for adults, or A$120 for a family pass for the whole weekend.
