Today’s launch of Windows 8 Release Preview from Microsoft seen the introduction of metro applications from Aussie developers. Some of those include SBS OnDemand, AU Weather Pro, Sky News, TVFIX and AU Newswire.
SBS OnDemand
Want to play catchup with SBS programming? Then this is the app for you. Sure you could hit up the SBS website, but the app gives you a much nicer / visual experience to digest the content
AU Weather Pro
While there is an in-built weather app for Windows 8, it never hurts to have options. The AU Weather Pro app on Windows 8 provides very similar functionality as the straight-from-the-download Weather app in Windows 8 with one key difference.. radar views provided from the bureau of meteorology.
Sky News
Bringing you the latest news from Sky, the Sky News metro app delivers what you’d expect. Professionally predictable, lacking in some areas, overall its a great app that delivers news from Sky News journalists both video and textual content is on offer here.
TVFIX
Windows 8 usefulness is dramatically increased with the introduction of a metro TV Guide. While a requirement for all metro apps, the snapped view of this app is particularly useful, particularly when you pair a desktop app like Slingbox with the guide data to see not only what’s on, but what’s coming up on TV.
AU Newswire
The latest news from syndicated sources like ABC, BigPond, Yahoo!7, NneMSN, The Age and News.com.au are available from this app. While a number of those new sources are bound to have apps of their own in the future, for now, you may need to rely on AU Newswire to wire the news metro-style to you.
