Kogan founder Ruslan Kogan unveiled a WikiLeaks style whistleblowing site yesterday – TradeLeaks.com. The site aims to highlight dodgy business practices around the world. Only problem is, it seems that moderation wasn’t really a strong point of TradeLeaks.
Unfortunately the best intentions can come unstuck. The has devolved into attacks on the site itself. While the idea of crowdsourcing and sharing bad experiences of consumers was good in theory, it has to be moderated. The foundation of a whistle-blower site is that you can report on things anonymously, the problem with that is users can post whatever they like without evidence.
If TradeLeaks is to be saved, they need to restructure their approach, take entries from anyone, but only publish legitimate complaints. Right now the site is useless.
