The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 has been officially announced via the companies YouTube channel. The carbon-coloured unibody 9.7” tablet is just 8.9mm thin and is rocking Ice Cream Sandwich, something most Android smartphones are still incapable of. The promo video also runs down the spec sheet to reveal a 1024 x 768 pxel IPS display, 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera (no mention of a rear), micro-USB, micro-HDMI out and micro-SD card slot.
Lenovo are quoting 10 hours battery on this beast and with the iPad setting the standard, it had better deliver really close to that. When it comes to audio the S2019 supports a crazy 4-speaker system, mounted in the back of the tablet. It will be interesting to see if placing the tablet on a coffee table helps the audio amplify or muffles it, still this could be the tablet for you if sound is important.
There is one thing I need to pull them up on, the video references the Android Play and Lenovo App Shop as having more than 450,000 apps. While this is true, the real truth is the apps that are a specifically designed to work well on tablet, is a much smaller number.
There’s no word on local availability or pricing yet, but this looks to be the best of breed when it comes to Android tablets.
