Google just launched the Galaxy Nexus 5 into the US Play Store and has one killer feature, price. At US$349 this is a serious pricing decision that is set to shakeup the smartphone industry. Typically the latest devices are priced in the $700-$900 range to buy outright. With a Snapdragon 800 processor, 5“ 1080p display, Google are now playing a different game.
Running stock Android, the Nexus 5 is sure to be a hit amongst enthusiasts that hate skins by LG, Samsung and HTC. There’s no confirmation of an Australian release of the Nexus 5, if that does arrive down under, it’s likely to land at sub $500, even with the Australian tax and GST applied.
Update
Looks like a perl script went awry and adding the Nexus 5 before Google were ready. They have now pulled the Nexus 5 page from the play store.
