How to get SpaceX Starlink for just $1

If you’re in Australia and are unhappy with your current internet offering, then it may be worth considering the new Starlink deal.

Starlink is offering a 30-day trial of the service for just A$1. As you can probably guess, there’s more to the story. The $1 is an inviting number to get you started and if you don’t like it, you can send it back within 30 days. Starlink provides a pre-paid return label for the kit.

SpaceX is betting that the majority of users will fall in love with the speeds on Starlink and where that happens, the monthly cost will be A$139 per month for the residential plan.

The Starlink hardware generally costs A$599 and the remaining balance of $598 will be automatically charged 30 days after activation unless you cancel service and initiate the return of the undamaged kit.

The residential Starlink plan includes unlimited data and while speeds will vary, on the state or territory you’re in, you can expect between 100 and 300Mbps. Upload speeds are estimated to be between 16 and 40Mbps, with latency between 25 and 75ms.

If you do try Starlink, there are no contracts, which means the monthly subscription can be cancelled at any time. Starlink promotes the simple setup of plugging in (to power) and pointing it at the sky and you can have internet in minutes.

For those looking for a mobile solution, there are higher-tier plans available to support use cases like camping which would see the location regularly moving.

There are a range of mounting options available, which will cost you more than the $1.

For those who have more questions, there is a great Facebook Group – Starlink Users Australia with more than 80,000 members who are very active and have great insights into performance in specific areas and can help answer mounting questions.
