Microsoft has just announced Surface Pro 4. The update brings a larger screen, 12.3” up from 12” but they’ve managed to fit in the form factor. Microsoft were limited in their ability to change the physical size of the device as they’d committed to stay with the dimensions for version 3 and 4 of the product, so people could feel safe investing in a dock.
There’s also a brand new pen that magnetically connects on the side of the device, which means you can avoid the pen loop. Microsoft are claiming all year battery life on the pen and the end of the pen will finally work as an eraser. Although the live demo failed, you’ll also be able to press and hold the button on the pen and launch Cortana. This adds to the press and launch OneNote.
Of course the new Surface Pro 4 comes with the latest Intel processors, but will now allow users to spec it out with as much as 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Microsoft says this is in response to customer feedback and was met with some big applause at the event.
There’s a brand new Surface Pro dock that’s compatible with the Surface Pro 3 and 4. If you have the newer, powerful Surface Pro 4 connected, the dock will allow to output to 2x 4K displays.
Visually it’s very different to the Surface Pro 3 dock, much smaller.
There’s also an update keyboard
Surface Pro 4 is available for pre-order from October 7th, available on October 26th. The starting price is US$899.
