Microsoft along with the rest of the world are counting down the death of IE6, once the most popular browser in the world. Times have changed, the web has changed, its time to upgrade. IE6 doesn’t feature many of the security, speed or support for web technologies that we expect from modern browsers today.
If you have a machine that connects to the web, then you should NOT be using IE6. Lets face it, some users are already on IE9, so given IE6 is 3 versions old, its seriously time to let it go. If you needed more of a reason to let go, then most mainstream sites are now dropping support for IE6, this means your browsing experience will be pretty broken.
You can get a breakdown by countries of the IE6 offenders, over at http://www.ie6countdown.com. Despite Australians usually being on the leading edge of technology, we do still represent 3.2% of global IE6 users. We are still far better than China at 34%, South Korea at 24.8% and India at 12.3%.
If you know someone or some company still using IE6, publically shame them by leaving a comment.
