Western Digital releases 1TB Expansion Card for Xbox Series X/S for the exact same price as Seagate

If you’re an Xbox gamer and want more storage, there’s now a second option for expansion. Joining Seagate, Western Digital has released the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox.

The card will be offered in 512GB and 1TB storage sizes, however, only the larger 1TB option is being launched today. The expansion card gives you more capacity to store games and game data, so you can spend more time playing and less time managing which games are installed or not.

The card leverages the Xbox Velocity Architecture, allowing it to deliver the incredible performance gamers have come to expect from the Xbox Series X|S. Western Digital doesn’t offer specific read/write speeds but does say it’s similar performance to the internal SSD in the Xbox.

Xbox consoles have been a much-beloved gaming staple in households around the globe for decades.

With the introduction of the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox, gamers can continue to enjoy their favorite games with more flexibility so they can focus on accomplishing their next mission or defeating their final boss.

Susan Park, vice president, global strategic partnerships at Western Digital.

Designed with the WD_BLACK aesthetic, the C50 fits neatly in the Xbox Series X|S Storage Expansion Port; players can simply plug and play, without fussing with screws or compatibility concerns.

The expansion card is Quick Resume-compatible, allowing you to suspend your current game, play a different game, and then come back to the first game as if you never left.

Enabling gamers to enjoy the breadth of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service, a purchase of the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox will also include a 1-month trial of the Game Pass Ultimate service.

It is a little disappointing to only see it offered in black, which many Xbox One S consoles are white, it would have been great to see a colour-matched version for each.

The WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox retails for $289 RRP (1TB GB) and will be available today on at JB Hi-Fi

Those hoping for cheaper storage expansion may be disappointed to learn that this lands at exactly the same price as the 1TB Seagate Xbox Storage Expansion at A$289, which means there’s little more than aesthetics to make your choice from.

The dimensions of the Western Digital Xbox Storage Expansion card are 5.56 cm x 3.15 cm x 0.76 cm and features an operating temperature range -5°C to 55°C.
