Major Nelson officially announced the latest Xbox Update was pushing through Microsoft server farms a couple of hours ago. This means that if you don’t already have it.. just wait longer. As a beta user, I’ve actually had the update for few weeks now, I like the cleaner, more refined UI changes, but it’s nothing earth shattering.
What is brand new (at least in the past few days) is the Kinect Video calling. Obviously we don’t have Kinect hardware yet, but it gets me excited that video calls could become a possibility from the couch, something easy enough for your parents to do.
As an added surprise, there’s been some changes to the Xbox Live Gold prices. What use to cost $99 per year, Xbox Live Gold Subscriptions are now available for just A$79.95 ($6.66 per month). There’s also a quite reasonable one month option for A$10.95.
If you signup for Xbox Live Gold on the web – http://xbox.com.au you’ll get another option – 3 Months of Gold for A$29.95 ($9.98 per month).
Xbox Kinect is due for release in Australia on November 18th 2010 for $199 (slightly cheaper if you hunt around).
