Apple applies for “iWatch” trademark in Japan

    Apple-Smart-Watch

Following months of speculation about Apple dipping into the smartwatch market, the Cupertino company is looking to trademark “iWatch” in Japan, according to Bloomberg. It has been believed for a while now that Apple is working on a smartwatch product, but so far, the company has kept quiet about the matter – aside from a Tim Cook statement about the “profound” opportunity in wearables at the D11 conference this May.

This still doesn’t mean that Apple is definitely planning on naming a product that in the future, and is in fact known to trademark plausible names for future products, like iSlate in 2009. Whether or not the name is used, it is still a great indication that a smart watch may be coming from Apple in the near future.
