Canberra wants 500 humans (social media peeps) for a free weekend in Canberra


Tourism Canberra have come up with a new idea to promote the city. The ‘See yourself in the Nation’s Capital’ campaign will send 500 socially active people to Canberra for a weekend getaway. While specific actives aren’t defined, there are 4 primary categories to pick from.

  • Jump the queues and enjoy personalised tours of our nation’s leading cultural attractions and galleries. Explore local art and design hotspots and enjoy some of the region’s best creations. Work with world-renowned artists and create a unique memento of your visit.

  • With more restaurants per capita than any other city in Australia, there’s something for everyone. Stroll through our award-winning vineyards, meet the acclaimed winemakers, or lose yourself in conversation over a long lunch that embodies slow food philosophy.

  • Reconnect as a family and enjoy the perfect getaway. Watch your kids design the transport of the future, defy gravity with a six-metre free-fall slide or become giants in a miniature world. Look out for the big cats as you go exploring behind the scenes. You may find it a challenge to keep up with your kids!

  • The best view in town is definitely from high above in a hot air balloon. Look down over the city, the houses of parliament and beautiful Lake Burley Griffin on this magical ride. Come back to earth and crank it up a gear on our world-famous mountain bike trails then venture into the edge of true alpine wilderness.

While you won’t be restricted to publishing only good experiences, it is expected that you’ll use your social networks to inform Australia (and the world) about you Canberra experience. During the signup process you’ll need to enter your social network usernames so they can verify you are actually active and how influential you are.

It is an interesting and potentially very expensive way of gaining publicity for Canberra, but the potential audience of 500 influencers pushing messages (theory is positive messages) about Canberra to millions of friends and followers could actually be very effective.

Collectively branded as the Human Brochure, you can take a friend, a partner, or even your whole family. Accommodation, flights, activities, meals, the lot will will be covered.
