Just announced by Steve Conroy and Victorian Premiere Jon Brumby, the NBN Co head quarters will be located at 1110 LaTrobe Street, Melbourne. This is a big win for Victoria as strong competition was presented by Sydney and other areas of Australia to host the HQ.

The facility which will be online before the end of the year, will be a 4 story, 4000 m2, building catering for 425 staff. The NBN HQ will feature a Service and Operation Centre providing 24 hour support and monitoring over the network. While detailed costings haven’t been announced, Brumby confirmed the center will cost “tens of millions of dollars”.

It will also house a Multi-vendor test-environment for trailing new technologies prior to going online on the NBN.

Despite some claims online that the first person is already connected to the NBN (reports on Whirlpool), Conroy says they are “only a couple weeks away from the first customers coming online”.
